PSP's Guide to Writing Awesome Dedicated Emails:

Sometimes advertisers ask us about how to write a dedicated e-mail. Here are some pointers.

FORMATTING TIPS:

  • Stick to one font (but no more than two).
  • Use no more than two font colors.
  • Bold and italics should be used sparingly.

CREATE A MEANINGFUL SUBJECT LINE:

  • Your message is much more likely to be open/read with a powerful subject-line.
  • Keep it short: 30-40 characters is ideal.
  • AVOID ALL CAPS and EXCLAMATION POINTS!!! It looks like yelling and will be flagged as spam by email systems.
  • Avoid certain words or phrases such as free, help, lifetime, hello, greetings, sign up free today, free sample, free offer, act now, and bonus.
  • Stop selling and start telling. Emphasize what the reader will get by opening your email.
  • Ask a question that invites a ‘yes’ reply. This will make readers want to learn more what you are offering.
  • Create a sense of urgency without sounding desperate.
  • Make sure your subject-line reflects the content of your message.
  • Steer clear of vague or misleading subject-lines.

BE SENSITIVE:

  • Be sensitive to issues related gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, disability, and religion in both your content and graphics.

INCLUDE RELEVANT CONTENT:

• Less is more!
• Center your email around one main theme, objective and goal.
• Clear and concise is better than wordy and obtuse.
• Use bullet points where you can.
• Use good quality images.
• Make people want to know more about you and your business.
• Keep content relevant to parents in Brooklyn.
• Have ONE clear call to action for PSP members to do after reading your message.
• Focus on the benefits of what you are offering.
• Answer the “why you?” question. Note any unique qualities about your service.
• Keep tone casual and conversational (rather than being too chatty or too formal).

INCLUDE BASIC DETAILS:

  • Date
  • Price
  • Time
  • Location
  • Booking deadlines
  • Contact information (email, website, phone but if you can return in a timely manner)

INCLUDE SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS:

  • Links to your company's Facebook/Instagram/Twitter pages.

OFFER A DISCOUNT:

  • Offer a “special” discount for the promotion to increase conversion.
