FOR THE PLANE:

SNACKS

  • Water Bottles
  • Juice (less than 3.5 oz)
  • Pretzels
  • Cheese
  • Grapes
  • Granola Bars
  • Nuts & Dried Fruit
  • "For snacks, celery is great since he can chew on it for so long, and it isn't really messy. Swallowing prevents their ears from hurting during take off and landing, so nurse or bottle feed if you can during those times. TSA will let you bring in liquids/food over 3oz if it's for a baby, so you can bring as much milk, pouches, juice etc as you want. I always pull up the TSA guidelines on my phone just in case an agent gives me a hard time.

 FOR YOU:

  • Maternity / other pants that don’t have zippers, snaps. - especially if you are wearing her, easier to get in and out of
  • A change of shirt for you - in case baby pukes on you, you do NOT want to have to smell vomit the whole way.

MONEY

TICKETS

GEAR

FOR BABY:

  • Baby carrier. "Consider wearing baby through security even if you plan on having the stroller.  I thought it was easier to be hands free. You have to carry her through anyways, so might as well have her strapped to you.  Depending on how much you are carrying wear her onto the plane as well.  They may make you take baby off for takeoff and landing - depends on the stewardess.
  • I've heard that if there is an extra seat they will let you take car seat even if you haven't paid for it.  So try to put you and your partner one seat apart in the three across.  If that seat stays empty they might let you take the car seat.  If not you can gate check it.  We brought a laundry bag and put it around the carseat to keep it clean.
  • When our daughter was little I wore he Ktan -she snuggled in - i would still do that for a long flight as it's where she sleeps best.  A structured carrier like an Ergo is nice though because you can take it on and off without disturbing baby as much.
  • Enough diapers & wipes that if you get dumped off someplace, it’s not an emergency. - I do 8-10 diaps
  • Blanket for baby - Planes can be so chilly!
  • I got a travel boppy.  It was worth the space.  Our daughter lounged on it and it made it a LOT easier to nurse.
Bring a small toy or two for baby to look at.

Other tips:

"Drink a lot of water the day before so you are well-hydrated!"

"Don’t stress; just prepare.  My friend gave me this advice and it was good.  Very little that you are going to do is going to make a difference in whether it's a good flight or a bad one - so prepare but don't worry too much."
