Greener Alternatives for Back to School

An eco-friendly shopping list of all those back to school must haves.

Buying pens: surprisingly complex

Many parents have received their "School Supplies" list for the upcoming school year. If you are looking for more eco-friendly alternatives you might consider some of these products recommended by the PS 107’s Green Committee, who have graciously allowed us to reprint their list.

Hand soaps

-- Hugo Naturals, Pure&Basic, CleanWell, Be Green or Tom's of Maine liquid hand soaps (preferably unscented)

Disinfectant wipes

--Greenworks Compostable Natural Cleaning Wipes (by Clorox), Greenworks Biodegradable Cleaning Wipes or Seventh Generation Disinfectant Wipes.

Baby wipes

--Seventh Generation, Tushies, Rite Aid Premium baby wipes(fragrance free) or Pampers unscented or sensitive baby wipes are good choices

Glue sticks

--Elmer's School Glue Sticks

Pens

--Paper Mate, Point Guard Flair pens Paper Mate porous point or felt tip, Flair pens, or Liquid Expresso Flair marker pens

Hand sanitizer

--Purell, CVS and Rite Aid Instant Hand Sanitizers or low chemical alternatives such as All Terrain Hand Sanz Fragrance Free Antiseptic Hand Sanitizer, CleanWell All-Natural Hand Sanitizer, or EO Hand Sanitizer Unscented.

Dry erase markers

--Expo 2 “Low odor” markers
