Keep Money Local: Buy Memberships to Brooklyn's Great Organizations as Gifts

Okay, in our effort to keep dollars local I wanted to post about another idea: purchasing MEMBERSHIPS as GIFTS.

brooklyn

Now this might be a membership that your family already has but that you renew and give as a gift to your kids. It can be a membership for folks in your family or friends, or a teacher (note: If you buy a membership for someone else and they already have a membership the membership org will typically continue their membership).

But, you say, it's not in a box that someone can unwrap? It can be! You could print out a fun picture (e.g., a shark for a kid who loves the aquarium, an ice skater for someone who loves the park, the favorite artist who has a painting at the Art Museum), put it in a box, buy a T shirt or a reusable shopping bag from the organization's gift store, wrap it up and put it under the tree.

Here are some ideas (let us know if I forgot any!)

Helping support these organizations means that they have a larger operating budget to do things like offer classes, stay open later, hire more staff, and have better programming!

PLEASE SHOP LOCAL and keep money in Brooklyn. It makes for a better community!
