Bringing together over fifty years of work, “Faith Ringgold: American People” provides the most comprehensive assessment to date of the artist’s impactful vision. Ringgold is one of the most influential cultural figures of her generation, with a career linking the multi-disciplinary practices of the Harlem Renaissance to the political art of young Black artists working today.

In this program, Miss Caitlyn will explore the concept of fairness & self advocacy by investigating racism and discrimination in the children’s book Ron’s Big Mission. Nine-year-old Ron loves going to the Lake City Public Library to look through all the books on airplanes and flight. Today, Ron is ready to take out books by “himself.” But in the segregated world of South Carolina in the 1950s, Ron’s obtaining his own library card is not just a small rite of passage – it is a young man’s first courageous mission.

Author Stephanie L. Blair will be in attendance at WIADCA's new series titled "Reading Carpet" where WIADCA will promote reading to the youth year-round. We start with Blair's book titled "Sadie's Caribbean Alphabet" in Black History Month as a launch to a year filled of learning and sharing over the important narratives within our community. We are offering free books to children attending on a first come first serve basis.
