Technical Privacy Policy

What personally identifiable information is collected about visitors to www.parkslopeparents.com?

"Personally identifiable information" is non-anonymous information such as your name, phone number, credit card information, address or email address — anything that could identify you personally. Visitors to www.parkslopeparents.com are not required to provide personally identifiable information to use the Website.

There are two instances in which Park Slope Parents LLC (PSP) may receive your name, email address, or other information that identifies you personally.

The first is if you choose to register at our website.  Registration at our  website requires the entry of such personally-identifiable information, which is transferred to PSP and kept on our servers.  In such cases, we keep your information confidential and use it to establish a Membership for you (establishing, for example, that you are indeed a parent in Park Slope, Brooklyn) and then to customize the information that appears on the website you visit (displaying, for example, only the childcare options that serve your zip code once you identify your location).  Your information will not be shared or resold to any other company without your consent.

The second is if you click a link on our website asking a question or sending a comment.  In such cases, your email client will likely include your email address and may include other personally-identifiable information in a query sent to PSP.  In instances in which PSP receives such information, we keep it confidential and use it strictly to send you information or answer your concerns regarding PSP.

Finally, although the privacy of contributors to and readers of our two Yahoo Groups is governed by Yahoo’s privacy policy, there are instances in which participation in our two Yahoo Groups involves the transfer of personally-identifiable information to PSP.

When applying to join the Yahoo Groups, Park Slope Parents Members or Readers are asked to provide information affirming that they are indeed parents.  When applicants answer these queries, they may offer information including but not limited to Name, Address, and the ages and names of their children.  Such information is used only to establish eligibility for membership in the Park Slope Parents Yahoo Groups and is not shared or resold to any other company without your consent.  Once admitted to the Yahoo Groups, Member information is governed by Yahoo’s privacy policy, which is available at http://info.yahoo.com/privacy/us/yahoo/details.html for review.

PSP and the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act:

In an effort to be compliant with COPPA, it is the policy of PSP to collect NO personally identifiable information from children. All individuals are therefore required to be 14 years or older to submit their names, email addresses, or other information at our website.

What anonymous information is collected about visitors to www.parkslopeparents.com?

"Anonymous Information" means information that cannot be traced back to you as a specific individual. PSP receives standard web log information: cookies, referrer IDs, IP addresses and system information. None of this information identifies you personally — it is anonymous — and will never be combined or linked to any Personal Information.

What is a cookie?

A "cookie" is a small bit of record-keeping information that websites often store on a user's computer. Cookies do not include people's names, email addresses, or other information that identifies you personally; they are used to identify a computer, not a person. Cookie technology is fairly commonplace on the Internet because cookies allow Websites to personalize their service based on a user's preferences. On most browsers, you can ask to be notified by your browser when you receive a cookie, giving you the opportunity to decide whether or not to accept it.  PSP does not require that you accept cookies, nor will we intentionally prevent you from using our websites if you decline to accept cookies.

How does PSP use cookies?

PSP may use cookies to identify those who have registered at the Park Slope Parents Website.  This will allow us to personalize your web experience based on your location and any preferences you may have set upon registration.

What is a referrer ID?

A "referrer ID" is information from your web browser which shows us what URL you linked from. This allows us to see what websites link to www.parkslopeparents.com. This information is automatically gathered by our server. Referrer IDs contain no information that identifies you personally.

What is an IP address?

IP addresses are used by your computer every time you are connected to the Internet. Your IP address is a number that is used by computers on the network to identify your computer so that data (such as the web pages you request) can be sent to you. They are automatically gathered by our web server when you visit www.parkslopeparents.com. PSP will not use your IP address to attempt to identify your personal information.

What is system information?

System information we gather from our web logs includes time of your visit, type of browser you used, and the operating system, platform and CPU speed of your computer. This kind of anonymous information is routinely sent by your browser when you connect to websites. PSP uses this information only for broad demographic statistics. For example: it tells us what percentage of our users employ, for example, Firefox browsers versus Internet Explorer. You will not be personally identified by this information.

Will I receive unsolicited commercial email ("spam") as a result of visiting the website of park Slope Parents?

No.
