Babymoon Ideas

What’s a babymoon, anyway? Like a honeymoon, it’s a chance to spend quality time with your partner—but this time, it’s specifically planned to take place before the birth of a new baby, as a chance to just chill out, center yourselves, and deepen your bond before a huge and exciting change in your life.

Below, find inspiration for couples’ trips as close to home as Queens and as far away as Barcelona. Plus—if you’re not yet a member of PSP, join us today for advice on everything from babymoons to bottle-feeding to braving college admissions!

We asked PSP members as part of our 2023 Birthing Survey…

“Did you take any kind of ‘babymoon’ trip (a final couples getaway to pamper yourselves before the birth of the baby)? If so, where did you go? How was it?”

Members had amazing ideas near, far, and everywhere in between.

“We went to the Catskills, just two hours away, since I wanted to be close enough to my doctor/hospital in case anything happened. It was very relaxing, there are great hiking trails, spas etc.”

~~~
“[We went to] Beacon, NY, and loved it.”
~~~

“Our very last trip was to Montauk about 8 weeks before our due date. It was nice. I'd recommend not flying too late into the third trimester because you get very uncomfortable.”

~~~
“We went to Mohonk Mountain House. It was peaceful and perfect for what we were looking for. Prenatal massage was great.”
~~~

“Baby #1 - Urban Cowboy Lodge in Big Indian, NY.”

~~~
Crystal Springs Resort - Vernon, NJ - We decided to stay close by, as we didn't plan a babymoon until quite late into the pregnancy, so we chose Crystal Springs because of its large heated pool complexes and its spas (both very nice). It was winter, so swimming in the hot pool while it snowed was very romantic, as was couples' axe throwing, and s'mores by the fire. We stayed at the Minerals Hotel, and we drove to nearby Warwick, NY to visit some local breweries and distilleries (my husband did a little drinking; I enjoyed the ambiance, hot apple cider, and the food). It was a nice, local vacation!”
~~~

“This was baby number 2 so not so much BUT since I never filled this out for baby number 1, we went to East Hampton Art House and Breakfast. At the time (2021), Covid was really cramping our style so we were limited in what we were able to do. I've been to this B&B a few times, and I really love it. The couple that own it are artists, it's in a not super hampton-y spot in the Hamptons, the pool and grounds are lovely and you're 20 minutes from a really beautiful beach. I've also been here off season and really enjoyed it.”

~~~
“We also did a staycation for our anniversary at the 1hotel in Brooklyn Heights after I was not able to fly anymore. Also nice!”
~~~

“We also took a mini babymoon very late (like 37 weeks) at the TWA Hotel, which was really fun!”

“We enjoyed a week in Maine at the end of the second trimester - few days at the Samoset Resort in Camden and a few days in Portland at the Press Hotel. I wasn't able to fly during my pregnancy but the driving trip to Maine was perfection! Both parts of the trip were great with lots of relaxation, beautiful sights, the best food. If you plan to take a trip, I'd recommend a trip in your second tri. This is when I felt my best and had energy to enjoy. By the third trimester, it was challenging to eat (reflux), sleep (huge!), and enjoy life the same!”

~~~
“Yes! Went to Portland and Bar Harbor, ME. Cannot recommend doing a babymoon highly enough, it was amazing.”
~~~

“Yes, White Barn Inn Kennebunk MN.”

~~~
“We went to Cape Cod - spent time in Wellfleet and the beaches on the National Seashore.”
~~~

“We went to Tourists in North Adams, MA. Not that far from the city but definitely felt like an escape. Surrounded by beautiful nature with easy walking paths.”

~~~
“Yes - a long weekend in the Poconos. It was wonderful. We didn’t go with a big agenda—just enjoyed being together as a twosome. Talked about our hopes and worries and ideas for supporting each other while parenting. Walked around a lake and drank hot cocoa.”
“We went to Miami and stayed at the Mandarin Oriental on Brickell. It was very relaxing and away from the scene of South Beach. I liked it but would probably pick a Caribbean destination were I to do it again.”
~~~

“Not this baby but for first- Miami and the keys.”

~~~
“Miami, and it was amazing and brilliant to do.”
~~~

“My husband and I went to Miami Beach and stayed at the Edition Hotel on South Beach. Great trip! Because it was closer to the due date (maybe 32 weeks), I didn’t feel up to traveling as far on plane or doing as much when I was there. Probably would have wanted to go at 28 or 30 weeks for more of a trip.”

~~~
“Miami - great! Stayed at the W Hotel. Would go again.”
~~~

“Rehoboth Beach and Chincoteague. It was lovely, pretty low key and excellent beaches.”

~~~
Omni Grove Park Inn - Asheville, NC. Relaxing, gorgeous and delicious.”
~~~

“We went to Savannah, Georgia at 17 weeks pregnant and it was amazing! We splurged on a 5 star hotel with a pool and just ate a lot of delicious food, and relaxed.”

~~~
“We went to Sea Island Georgia to The Cloister when I was about 27 weeks pregnant. highly recommend that location, going on a babymoon and going toward the end of second trimester!! It was perfect and we had an amazing time. I’m also excited to now go back with our baby.”
“We went to Northern California and did a road trip on the coast and then through wine country. It was easy and simple to pull off! I would recommend going just before your third trimester, so travel is a bit more comfortable.”
~~~

“Yes, Sedona, it was perfect.”

~~~
“2nd tri babymoon at the Grand Canyon. It was amazing!”
~~~

“We went for a week to Seattle and Olympia National Park. It was very nice!  I had thought of going out of the country but being on a longer flight/not knowing the language etc seemed less appealing once I was entering my third trimester.”

~~~
“We went to Seattle and went on a gentle hike.”
Hawaii
“We got pregnant right after our wedding so we did a babymoon/honeymoon in Hawaii during my early 20's weeks of pregnancy. I struggled with round ligament pain while hiking so I could not go as far. Snorkeling was one of the few places where I didn't feel pregnant. I had a hard pregnancy, so I loved being in water. That said, it sucks to avoid tuna and other large fish in Hawaii!”
~~~

“At the end of my first trimester, we took a trip to Oahu, Hawaii, where we had been many times before. It was really nice to be able to go back to a favorite spot. I couldn’t do all of the usual hikes that I did, when I wasn’t pregnant, but we still had a great time. We were able to take a few photos of my very small baby bump as well!”

~~~
“We went to Maui, Hawaii and had a really nice time. We got a place right on the beach with a terrace overlooking the ocean. I was still a little sick with pregnancy nausea, but I really enjoyed being able to be on the terrace and still enjoy the scenery of Hawaii.”
“We went to Porto and Lisbon. We had a great time but there were SO MANY hills—fortunately I was healthy and active throughout pregnancy so it was fine, but we might have chosen differently had we known.”
~~~

“Lisbon is a great babymoon destination! Not a super long flight, and a great city, with great food and sights to see! It was perfect for a pregnancy getaway.”

~~~
“Yes! We went to Madeira (a Portuguese island). It was amazing so I’m so glad we went. We went right at the end of 2nd trimester which was perfect timing.”
~~~

“Madeira, We thought about going to Hawaii for our baby moon but it was far and expensive. We opted for Madeira, which is just a 6 hour direct flight from JFK, and has everything Hawaii has to offer - hiking, beaches, and relaxation. We rented a car and spent a week driving around the small island. The hotels were extremely comfortable and beautiful at great price points. Madeira was the perfect mix of relaxation and nature that we were looking for.”

~~~
“I went to Spain - Barcelona and the South of Spain at 6 months with my sister-in-law. Spain is so inexpensive and easy to get around. I went in a cooler, quieter month (December) and saw the Christmas decorations and such. I'd highly recommend one of the easier European countries like this on an off time. I wouldn't have been able to stand crowds and heat (because of too many lines and such.)  Only sad thing was not being able to sample all the dried meats and wine that I wanted! Hah.”
~~~

“Baby #2 - long weekend in Madrid, Spain!”

~~~
“We went to Ireland and it was wonderful!  Not too long of a flight, just the right temperature, beautiful scenery, and low abv half-pints of Guinness!”
~~~

“Yes! We went to the UK's East Coast, which was great because it was beautiful and relaxing, easy to do at a slow pace. As a bonus, they are much more into non-alcoholic beverages.”

~~~
“We went to Paris for 9 days after Christmas for our babymoon, when I was about 26-27 weeks pregnant, and it was wonderful.  Taking the time to get away with my partner to have some nice meals and see more of the world before kids (and before I was TOO pregnant and still enjoyed getting out and doing a lot of walking) was a great decision, and we constantly talk about how wonderful that trip was.  Highly recommend any type of babymoon you can do!”
“Yes we went on a babymoon to Aruba (direct flights, good medical care, good food safety, very low Zika risk). It was fantastic- only issue was that Aruba in July was really hot for a pregnant person, so I spent a lot of time inside in the air conditioning.”
~~~

“Aruba and then to the burbs with a pool. It was lovely.”

~~~
“Yes, Aruba and it was amazing!!!”
~~~

“We went to Hyatt Ziva in Cancun. We brought our toddler, so it was great for him and perfect weather in January.”

~~~
“Bahamas - Four Seasons Ocean Club. Super relaxing!”
~~~

Half Moon resort in Jamaica - it was wonderful!!”

~~~
“Yes, we went to Jamaica and it was wonderful to have that time together and get away for a little r&r before our lives changed!”
~~~

“Yes, to Guatemala (Antigua and Lake Atitlan) - highly recommend for lovers of the outdoors and market shopping!”

~~~
“Yes, St Maarten. It was ok, but still very hard hit by the hurricane from years ago. I would say to consider other options in the Caribbean.”
~~~

“Prince Edward Island & Nova Scotia, Canada. It was great! This was July 2022 and Air Canada still had a mask mandate, which made me feel more comfortable.”
