At BAX, we foster creativity, encourage exploration and provide a positive and nurturing environment. Children connect to one another and to our staff and experience the exhilaration of being an artist whether at age 4 or 11. Our staff and teaching specialists are dedicated to providing a vibrant learning and engaging environment for every child. BAX provides an excellent child-to-staff ratio and ensures that each child is treated as an individual.

We strive to create a non-competitive focus and proactive ways to be inclusive in our interactions with each other.

No particular talent or experience is necessary only interest and curiosity.

Children bring their own lunch. BAX supplies two healthy snacks.

Each group is staffed by a Group Leader, two Senior Counselors, two Junior Counselors and Arts Specialists. The program is supervised by a Program Director and the Education Department Staff.

  • Re: More Affordable Camps

Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) is a wonderful organization that offers sliding scale tuition based on financial need. You apply a few months before others would sign up and they let you know your tuition bracket. They focus on dance and visual arts, and go out to the playground to for lunch and recess. I was really impressed with the visual arts, and the dance and tumbling classes seemed fun and creative. Also, big plus was the community of teen counselors—diverse, arty, funky, and so kind—they were really a model of the type of teen you want your child to be (and look up to). BAX does a showcase at the end so parents can see the art and performances. After going for second year, my daughter wanted to move on, because she was getting older and wanted something more elaborate maybe, and oddly she wished there were more furniture (dance studios are the site for most of the day). But it’s great for younger kids the age yours are.
  • Review from the 2024 Summer Camp Survey

Location: Brooklyn Arts Exchange REVIEW: He loved it. There was dance and art and theater every day, and they really tapped into the children's creativity. They also had an added feature where they have older students become "buddies" with the younger students. This was great for the emotional growth of both the older and younger children. CHANGES: Nothing DETAILS: Age of child; 5 … Weeks attended: 1.5

REVIEW: Teachers are incredible and staff is warm and engaged. Skills learned: Working in a group, dance and following instructions. Age of child: 9
  • Summer camp options in Windsor Terrace area?

However, he also did 2 weeks at BAX in Park Slope. They have an arts/movement camp. It worked with my schedule so I put him there and I was worried (before the summer) he wouldn't like it as much as PSDC because at BAX the only place they take them is JJ Byrne playground for part of the day. He ended up LOVING BAX's camp. He actually used the word love a lot when talking about his time there and it was like night and day getting him to go there in the mornings, soooo easy. Now he is more of an introvert and nerdy so I guess their camp is great for kids like him who don't like to go do a lot of excursions, etc. If getting to Park Slope - 5th and 8th St. - is possible, I'd try that camp. I'll be signing up my son for their whole camp next summer, which is only 4 weeks, unfortunately.
  • Review from the 2023 Summer Camp Survey

Location: 5th Ave and 8th St How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 5 (incoming 1st) Review: We only did one week of BAX this summer. They use JJ Byrne for outdoor space and had a tent set up for shade which I appreciated. They tie dyed their camp shirts which my daughter enjoyed and she liked the different physical and performing art activities. They put on a little showcase for the parents on the Thursday and Friday afternoons (depending which age group you’re in) and she was proud to show off here work. Nice group of counselors. No field trips and no swimming as part of this program.
  • ISO: summer day camps for a 5 year old

BAX is the best. My son attended most summers from age 4 to 12 and then became a junior and then senior counselor. Each week is different (acting, movement, circus, arts) and it’s the most affordable camp I’ve found in Brooklyn. I especially like that the focus is on having fun instead of on creating a polished product. I recommend them highly!
  • 2018 Summer Camp Reviews

My step daughter LOVED the young people working there and she also loved the fact that they did a show at the end of each week.
  • Review from the 2017 PSP Summer Camp Survey

Low key but very engaging If you could change anything, what would it be? More professional staffs Age of child: 6 Based on a Summer 2017 experience
  • [ANONYMOUS] Affordable local summer daycamps?

You should look into Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX). My son has been involved there as a counselor and I know that they have great camp programs but in addition to that I'm pretty sure they have a sliding scale or scholarships for families that need it. Also, in case your kid is musical, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music has scholarships for their programs.
