- Review Submitted August 2025Our 7 year old son was very curious about fencing so we enrolled him for one week in the summer camp at Brooklyn Bridge Fencing Club. It was a fantastic experience! The camp day is long (9a-5p) so I had initially wondered if our son would be bored as he's accustomed to going to camps with diverse activities. But absolutely to the contrary -- he wanted to stay even longer and came home each day with such enthusiasm for returning. Each day was well-structured, including fencing rules, various drills, small matches. They had some downtime and the kids played various games -- our son made friends with the other kids; it seemed like a nice group of kids (definitely kids who skew studious/serious) of various ages and a very friendly environment. At the end of the week they had a showcase tournament and I was impressed by how much these kids had learned. Though I was a bit uncertain about his starting fencing with such an intensive week (rather than weekly lessons) it turned out to be a very good decision since it immersed our son in fencing, which he's now going to continue at BBFC during the school year. He is really excited about this and we are grateful there's such a good academy in Brooklyn for him to pursue this interest. And it's relatively convenient as the academy is literally a 3 minute walk from the F train (York Street) Above all I would praise the owner, Dan, who despite being a former Olympian is hardly hard-edged -- rather, he's super approachable and friendly and great with kids. In fact, all the staff who work there seem to have a nice way with kids while also being serious fencers themselves.
 - Brooklyn Bridge FencingMy daughter has been attending Brooklyn Bridge Fencing ("BBFC") for the past 2 years. BBFC creates a nurturing atmosphere where kids are motivated to fence and to learn. There is a strong sense of community amongst the kids as well as the parents. We have been very pleased with the quality of the coaching and the manner in which we have been guided through the world of competitive fencing. We never have to question the quality and the method of teaching. Dan Kellner has been coaching and has fenced at the highest level and his experience has translated into excellent results for his students. A couple of interesting points to consider: 1. My daughter loved the sword camp in the park and wanted to do more so sought out fencing 2. Fencing has enhanced emotional and mental control which has resulted in a better, well-rounded child at school and at home 3. The student coach ratio is excellent 4. Location of the club is about a 1 min walk from the F train (York St stop)
