• "If you don't need investment advice you can receive free financial counseling from the city through a non-profit service provider by calling 311. I work for Neighborhood Trust Financial Partners one of the service providers as a manager. The services are free, confidential, and high quality. They can help you review your credit, create a budget and also handle more complex issues such as managing foreclosure, contemplating bankruptcy, medical debt negotiations and student loan payments."
• "I think it's important to understand how a Planner is compensated and if there may be any conflicts of interest. Here is a link is a link to questions to ask before hiring a Planner. It's from the CFP board website. They enforce the ethical standards that all CFPs must uphold. Consumers should be aware of what they are signing up for! If you want to pass this along it might help the folks decide on who's the best fit to help their particular situation."
• "Most reputable financial planners should be willing to work with you on an hourly basis to do the planning part (as opposed to the investing part). There are many recommended ones on here, I got a guy who is kind but in the city. Most CFPs are going to still charge you in that 1-2k range I think for a one time plan."
