At Honeydew Drop Child Care, we are committed to fostering independence, resilience, and a strong sense of community in children, preparing them for success both in school and in life. Our center acts as the perfect bridge between home and school with a creative curriculum designed to support each child’s social and emotional development.
We offer five tailored programs for children from 3 months to 5 years old, including infants and our UPK program. All our staff are highly qualified and hold certifications in MAT (Medications Administration Training) and CPR, ensuring the highest standards of care and safety.
Additionally, we provide year-round Department of Education (DOE) camps, including engaging programs during spring, summer, and winter breaks. These camps are designed to keep children active and learning throughout the year.

- FlatWoodDitmas Daycare recommendations? We’ve been at honeydew cortelyou and it’s been great. We basically got on all possible waitlists. One thing to note is you still have to follow up. Some waitlists are firmer than others.
- Review from the Fall 2024 Early Education SurveyReview: We had a child attend 3K at Honeydew and he LOVED his time there. The staff was great and attentive and we felt like they really knew our child. The ratio was also great (2 teachers with 1 floater for a class of 18), which really gave each kid the attention they needed as they transitioned to a classroom setting. He got to explore different topics through play, and got his energy out (they have a yard where the kids can play, and they also take them to the playgrounds regularly), and really found his groove there. From a logistics perspective, they also have the option of doing early drop off, after school, all meals, and holiday camps so it was honestly so easy compared to having to clobber together coverage for DOE holidays, and packing food everyday. He still misses Honeydew and talks about it all the time despite being a few years out. Our youngest has also been at Honeydew since they were 5 months, and we've also loved all of the early childhood caretakers we've interacted with. They love the teachers and is so well taken care of there, and we appreciate how communicative the staff is, as well as all the enrichment classes they offer. We absolutely adore Honeydew and would definitely send our children there if we can do it all over.; Amenities: Has outdoor space, Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals; What would you change? The only delta we have is that they're sometimes TOO communicative and do A LOT. It's meant to build community (holiday parties, end of year parties, culture days, art shows) but it can be a bit much during the busier seasons.
- Daycare Recommendations - Ditmas ParkWe have a kiddo at Honeydew on Cortelyou which took us ~1.5 years to get a spot and it only happened bc Honeydew expanded to this new location and we reached out to check in at the right time. (Which happened to be early June for a Sept spot in case that’s true in general.)
- Daycare Recommendations - Ditmas ParkMy son has been attending Honeydew on cortelyou since September and we love it. They give lots of updates and pics throughout the day!
- Daycare Recommendations - Ditmas ParkMy daughter has attended Honeydew since she was 9 months old. They have a new location on Cortelyou, an older one on Church, and one in South Slope as well. They use Procare!
- Review from the Spring 2022 Early Childhood Education SurveyLocation: 1113 Church Ave 1st floor, Brooklyn, NY 11218 Type of facility: Pre-K Review: We liked Honeydew UPK well enough, though we didn't fully love it. The teachers were great in many ways and clearly cared for the kids a lot. The space was nice (especially the indoor jungle gym - good for getting the energy out) and they're close enough to the Parade Grounds that the kids got outside a lot. They also did community walks and field trips, e.g. to a pumpkin patch for Halloween. Honestly I think the main thing that gave us pause was how often our kid came home with candy.. sometimes it was a treat or reward from the teachers for good behavior, which I couldn't believe. Other times it was sent in by other parents for their kid's birthday or for valentines day (which I wish the school had discouraged). We're still happy enough with our choice to send our kid there. What amenities does the facility have? Has after-school options, Has early morning hours, Provides meals Is there anything you would like to add about how the school is handling the pandemic? We were generally happy with how Honeydew managed covid risks. And we tend to be on the more cautious side of things. They were often out ahead of the city's requirements, e.g. they had a company come do weekly PCR cheek swabs every Friday and we got results by email the next day. They were usually very clear in emailing parents when there were cases. Every month or two they'd hold a community zoom call about the cases and policy changes. Sometimes they weren't 100% clear on things (eg expectations of testing after traveling during the winter holidays) but things were confusing for everyone, and we give them credit for trying.
- 24m+ daycare recommendation? We've had our kids at Honeydew (though not the Safari location), Giocare, and Zusin and are big fans of all.
- Daycares in Prospect Park South? We love Honeydew! Nook and Safari (depending on age) are both close. We’re back there and feel very comfortable with their new protocols.
- Daycares in Prospect Park South? Our son went to Honeydew on Church Avenue for a few years and we were very happy with the program.
