  • Skate camp recommendations please

I don't have experience with Broken Bones but my family loves Skateyogi in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. They divide their lessons and camps into age groups, and it sounds like your kid would be one of the oldest in the 7-13 year old group, but you can ask them what the age distribution actually is before signing up and I'm sure they'd give you an idea. They are super responsive and encouraging (they want everyone to love skating!) so I'm sure they would do all they can to make it work for your child.
  • Skateboard lessons (and equipment) advice

I second the skateyogi rec! It's a sweet place for a beginner with kind teachers and explicit values re: inclusivity, determination, and growth. You'll need a helmet and pads, but if you end up taking lessons at skateyogi you can purchase both through them (we had a helmet and I think the pads were around $40), but you can borrow a board from them during the classes. My 8yo son borrowed a board for about a month so we could see if it would be something he'd stick with before purchasing one through them for around $120.

  • skateboard for 10 year old

Second the recommendation for Skateyogi! There are awesome. It’s owned by a local couple who also have a 10-year-old. Ask for Kevin. He will get your daughter set up! Good luck.
  • skateboard for 10 year old

Buy at Skateyogi (in Prospect Lefferts) - they're great at advising what's the appropriate size and wheel tightness, etc. (? - my son is the skateboarder, not me) for kids and if you don't buy a preassembled one you can watch them put it together!
  • Iso: skateboard teacher

Not a high school student, but my son did some camp days when he was about 8-10 years old at Skateyogi at 140 Empire Blvd and he enjoyed it. It is owned by local Brooklyn parents from my son's school.
  • Skateboarding for a cautious kid

From age 4-6 (until the pandemic), my daughter took classes at SkateYogi. They are so wonderful with the kids, and we miss them so much. They also sell equipment and can help you select the best board for your daughter. I know they are starting some outdoor classes for the fall for kids older than mine (7 and up). They also used to do some parent and kid classes pre-pandemic (which I couldn’t attend due to a year-long foot injury), but they looked like a lot of fun. The teachers are all exceptionally patient with the kids. I have a cautious daughter too and they were incredible with her, especially Kevin, Danny and Joe. They never made her feel like she had to try anything she didn’t want to, but were always there to support her. The owner is Kevin Banahan, father of a daughter, and talented skateboarder. I would send him an email directly to chat kevin@skateyogi.com. You can also check out their Instagram for a sense of who they are.
  • Papa's first skateboard & lessons?

Kevin and and his crew at SkateYogi are great. He'll help you pick out a board, and I also notice that he's got a “which board is right for you” video on the website right now:
  • Re: ISO: Skateboarding classes

My 6 year old son did a drop in class with Skateyogi and loved it! He loved that by the end of one class, he could go down a ramp on his own. I loved that he could try it out with a drop in class without committing to an expensive series of classes, and that they supplied all the gear (skateboard, helmet, knee/wrist/elbow pads). I'm sure we'll be going back for more! They have drop in classes every Saturday and Sunday. Parent, (who has never been on a skateboard, but is getting curious about trying)
