Textile Arts Center (TAC) is a NYC-based resource facility dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of textiles through creative educational programs for children and adults. At TAC, we unite and empower the textile community and advocate for the handmade by providing accessible, skills-based classes that reinvigorate engagement with traditional crafts. Techniques like weaving, sewing, and dyeing are practical, connective, and process-driven—common denominators around the world. They are part of our collective history and vital to our ongoing expressions of design, art, and culture.

- Review from the Fall 2023 & Spring 2024 Afterschool SurveyREVIEW: The environment is very calm, warm, and inclusive. They were good at keeping my child focused on different projects across the year and exploring different ways of artistic expression through textiles. My child enjoyed showing different scenes, and enjoyed helping setting up and cleaning up the space Skills learned: Persistence, artistic expression, fine motor, openness to different styles and media Age of child: 6
- Review from the Fall 2023 & Spring 2024 Afterschool SurveyREVIEW: Our first grader loves the after school program at Textile Arts Center! It’s great that they pick her up from school and keep her until 6pm. She is in a mixed age group class and is one of the youngest and she really enjoys and get along with everyone including the older kids. She has brought home amazing projects and has gained so many skills and is always excited to go there! Also, she has been doing the program on Mondays after school for nearly two years now and she hasn’t gotten sick of it / which says a lot! Age of child: 6 years old
- Beginner sewing / fashion design summer camp for teens ?For the school year, he’s enrolled in a sewing/fashion class at Textile Arts Center, which he loves. One thing I personally find cool about TAC is that the teachers there are working artists and use the space for their own work as well. I like that my son is getting exposure to that in addition to learning the craft.
- Review from the 2023 Summer Camp SurveyLocation: Carroll Street- Gowanus neighborhood How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 6.5 years old Review: Our child attended two weeks at TAC with the extended day options. We had been concerned that our child wouldn't find things to do during the extended day time (there is no directed programming during those hours) but found that she loved the camp and is eager to go back. Each week had a specific focus; our child was proud of what she learned and accomplished as an artist. The space itself where the students work appears to be fairly limited for each age group but they do go out for some time in the afternoon to a local playground.
- Review from the 2023 Summer Camp SurveyLocation: Gowanus How old was your child when they attended camp this summer? 6 and 10 (2 kids) Review: My kids love this camp. They have done it for 1 week the past two summers and really love it. What would you change about the program, if anything, and why? Nothing

- Textile Arts CampWe sent our daughter pre-pandemic, so it's an older review, but she really loved it, it's a very homegrown/grassroots feeling camp--truly artsy and creative.
