Donate gifts to refugees at Ruth's Refuge

As you do your gift buying this week, pick up a gift (or click) for refugees and asylum seekers! Ruth's Refuge is holding a holiday drive for much needed household goods, so their clients can be nice and comfy in their new homes this winter. You can purchase from their Target or Amazon wishlist, or you can buy local and drop off at their storage space in Gowanus, Brooklyn Dec 19-22.

Donate gifts to Win families

Win is the largest provider of shelter and supportive housing for New York City's homeless families, especially women and children. in partnership with Target, Win is hosting festive pop-up shops at 13 shelters across NYC. Every child will choose two toys, and every adult will receive one $25 Target gift card so they have the freedom to shop for themselves. Your generous donations make it all possible!

Donate kitchen items, food, toiletries, and clothing to CHiPS


CHiPS, a local food pantry, soup kitchen and women’s shelter is always grateful for donations of kitchen items, food, toiletries and clothing. CHiPS doesn’t have resources to collect so please drop any donations to their location on 4th Avenue and Sackett during hours of operation, Mon-Sat 9AM - 2PM.

Kitchen

CHiPs created an Amazon wish list – mostly with specific items for their kitchen – see here. If sending from Amazon, please include your first and last name and email in the gift note, so they know who they are receiving the donations from. If you don’t want to purchase from Amazon, you can still look at the list, buy locally and then tick it off the Amazon wish list.

Food

CHiPS will take all food donations. For shelf stable food donations drop off can be anytime Mon-Sat between 9AM – 2PM. For prepared food donations drop off is best Mon-Sat between 9 – 11AM. That way, they can use it the same day.

Join the PS 889 Winter Clothing Swap and Food Drive

The PS 889 PA Racial Equity and Social Justice committee is hosting a Winter Clothing Swap and Food Drive on Friday, December 9th.

We will be collecting and swapping warm winter clothes in good condition! Bring us your sweaters, scarves, boots, gloves, hats, snow bibs and more. :) We will also collect new, unopened, non-perishable food for our community. The donation bins are in place as you enter the school at 21 Hinckley Place. Right near the lost and found.

Drop-off is anytime between now and December 9th, during school hours (8:10-2:30). Pick-up is in the school cafeteria on December 9th from 3-6pm.

Donate to the Camp Friendship Toy Drive

Camp Friendship will accept gifts until December 15th at 339 8th Street, Fridays 6:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturdays 9:00am - 2:00pm.

The Old Stone House will be accepting donations for Camp Friendship on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from Noon - 4:00pm through December 11.

Please bring new, unwrapped gifts suitable for ages 0-18. Recommended budget $15-25. Visit Camp Friendship's website for suggested gifts, where to shop locally, and more info on partner drop-off sites.

Fight food insecurity with Gowanus Mutual Aid

Gowanus Mutual Aid is partnering with D52 Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon's office to fight food insecurity this holiday season. With your support, neighbors in need will receive a food voucher to a local grocery store so they can prepare a healthy, delicious Thanksgiving that is meaningful to them or meets their dietary needs. Donate to the Brooklyn Museum Toy Drive and Giveaway

’Tis the season! To help spread the holiday cheer, we’re hosting a toy drive. From November 30 through December 17, stop by the Admissions Desk to drop off new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0–14 in the designated bins.

Join us for a holiday toy giveaway on Saturday, December 17, 12–3 pm, in the Beaux-Arts Court to pick up gifts for your little loved ones. Toys will be distributed until 3 pm. After the giveaway, remaining toys will be donated to local family shelters.

This program is free and open to the public.
